POMPANO BEACH FREE SANDBAGS
To help residents protect their property against potential flooding from Hurricane Dorian, the City of Pompano Beach will be distributing sandbags beginning on Saturday, Aug. 31, at 9am, at 1660 NE 10th Street, across the street from the Pompano Beach Airpark.
The sandbags are free for Pompano Beach residents, with a limit of 10 bags per household. Proof of residency will be required. The sandbags will be distributed while supplies last.
To expedite sandbag distribution this year, the City now has a machine that will help automate the filling of the sandbags. The City decided to purchase the machine after Hurricane Irma struck Florida in September 2017.
During preparations for Hurricane Irma, the City provided sandbags to residents; however, supplies proved insufficient for demand.
Over a three-day period 4,000 sandbags were distributed, with 2,000 sandbags given out in just one day. Overall, the City distributed 40 tons of sand. This distribution effort was so widely utilized that, by the third day, when sandbags ran out, residents were bringing their own shopping bags and pillowcases to fill.
DEERFIELD BEACH FREE SANDBAGS
The City will be giving out sandbags to Deerfield Beach residents on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4. Sandbags will not be distributed on Sunday, September 1, 2019.
Pick up will take place at 210 Goolsby Boulevard, Deerfield Beach. Residents are asked to enter the facility northbound from Goolsby Boulevard. Drivers will not be permitted to enter from the southbound approach to Goolsby Boulevard. Please follow the established traffic pattern to ensure expedient service can be provided.
