A K9 Resorts Luxury Pet Hotel, which provides dog boarding and daycare services, is planned for the vacant two-story Wells Fargo building at 3885 N. Federal Highway in Pompano Beach. In addition, a new Starbucks with a drive-through is planned for a vacant, grassy site directly north of the empty bank building.

Both projects are being developed by Boca Raton-based Schmier Property Group, which owns the 2.23-acre parcel of land through its affiliate 3885 N. Federal, LLC. The plans are currently going through the City’s review process. The approximately 7,300-square-foot former bank building would undergo renovations valued at $2,000,000.

According to the proposed site plan, the 2,575-square-foot Starbucks building would be pushed towards Federal Highway with an entrance provided along this frontage for pedestrians walking from other nearby locations.

The vehicular entrance/exit point would be on the road that runs along the west side of the property. The single drive-through lane would be located behind the building (on the west side), so it is not as visible from the main thoroughfare.

An outdoor covered patio would be provided to encourage pedestrian activity at the forefront of the property. Additional landscaping would be planted on the property as part of the proposed project.

K9 Resorts Luxury Pet Hotel was founded in New Jersey by two brothers, Steven and Jason Parker. In 1999, they started their own pet-sitting business when were just 14 and 12 years old because they loved dogs. Later on, the young entrepreneurs realized they wanted to make pet care their careers. In 2005, the first K9 Resorts Luxury Pet Hotel opened its doors. K9 Resorts began franchising in 2011, and now has approximately 50 locations nationwide.

According to K9 Resorts, their facilities feature a PetAirapy UV air purification and ventilation system, hospital-grade sanitation procedures, state-of-the-art flooring systems with built-in antimicrobial protection, comfort mat bedding or Kuranda dog beds (elevated, cot-style dog beds with a patented, chew-proof design), and separate play areas for large and small dogs.

Accommodations include luxury suites and executive rooms, which are private cage-free options. There are also private traditional dog kennel options that can be customized.

K9 Resorts prices vary according to location. Currently, the only K9 Resorts in Florida is in Wellington in Palm Beach County. Their pricing for boarding accommodations ranges from $54 to $89 per day. The cost for half-day doggie daycare is $28 and full-day doggie daycare is $36.

For even more pampering, a dog’s boarding stay can be upgraded with items like extra personal playtime, extra outdoor walks, Evian spring water, gourmet doggie ice cream and gourmet treats.
