Two new businesses are coming to the Pompano Beach Fishing Village – a full-service coffee house called How You Brewin Coffee Company, and a Salt Life retail store.

The businesses recently signed leases for the retail space on the ground floor of the Pier Parking Garage, which is just west of the Fisher Family Pier. The parking garage retail space is a total of 6,000 square feet. The businesses will occupy approximately 3,000 square feet each, said Tim Hernandez, a partner of Pompano Pier Associates, the master developer of the Pompano Beach Fishing Village.

The retail space fronts Pier Street, which runs between the parking garage and the Hilton hotel. How You Brewin Coffee Company will occupy the east half of the retail space; the Salt Life store will occupy the west half. Each tenant will do an interior buildout of their space.

HOW YOU BREWIN COFFEE COMPANY

Founded in 2004, How You Brewin Coffee Company is based in New Jersey, with two locations on Long Beach Island that are owned and operated by husband-and-wife team Dan and Lori Malay. Dan and Lori will have partners for their new location — longtime friends (husband and wife) who reside in Pompano Beach.

How You Brewin will serve a full line of traditional coffee house beverages, with approximately three dozen single origins, blends, and flavored coffees to choose from. Additionally, there will be a viewable space dedicated to the production of their signature cold brew “to give the coffee house a bit of a microbrewery feel,” said Dan Malay. The coffee house will also offer pastries, breakfast and lunch options, and dessert selections. There will be approximately 60 indoor seats and two dozen outdoor seats.

Malay said the goal is for the coffee house to open in January 2023. How You Brewin’s objective is to create an environment that facilitates community.

“We desire to host a space that fosters ‘one-anothering’ through the vehicle of coffee,” said Malay.

The coffee house is “a perfect addition” to the Pompano Beach Fishing Village, said Hernandez. “It’s going to be very unique and special for our particular location. There’s nothing like this anywhere up and down the beach.”

SALT LIFE

The Salt Life retail store in the Pompano Fishing Village will offer apparel for the beach, fishing, surfing and diving, with lines for men, women and children. In addition to performance gear, the store will have an inventory of sunglasses, hats and other accessories.

The Salt Life lifestyle brand was founded in 2003 by four avid water sportsmen from Jacksonville Beach, Florida. The brand originated as a decal of the Salt Life logo, over two million of which have been sold. Salt Life currently owns and operates 20 retail stores nationwide, mostly in Florida and the southeastern U.S. The company’s branded goods are also sold in retailers throughout the country. The new retail store in Pompano Beach is expected to open by the end of this year. It will feature a sleek ocean-themed décor.

“We’re excited to have Salt Life join the Fishing Village,” said Hernandez. “We have plenty of restaurants there, so we’re happy to add another retailer.”

THE POMPANO BEACH FISHING VILLAGE IS NEARING COMPLETION

Baresco, a Mexican restaurant currently under construction at 225 N. Pompano Beach Blvd. in the Pompano Beach Fishing Village, is expected to open at the end of this year or the beginning of next year, said Hernandez. Baresco is being developed by Brimstone Restaurant Group, which opened the Beach House restaurant, just across the street, in 2018.

Once Baresco, How You Brewin Coffee Company and the Salt Life retail store open, the Pompano Beach Fishing Village will be complete. The Fishing Village currently includes the Beach House and Oceanic restaurants, Lucky Fish Beach Bar and Grill, BurgerFi, Kilwins, Cannoli Kitchen, a dual-branded Hilton hotel and Alvin’s Island.
