On Nov. 2 Pompano Beach officially became a sister city with Termoli, Italy. Termoli’s Mayor Angelo Sbrocca and Pompano Beach’s Mayor Lamar Fisher signed the proclamation at a ceremony at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center. Termoli is Pompano Beach’s third sister city through the Greater Pompano Beach Sister Cities International (GPBSCI) organization. The City’s other two sister cities include San Clemente del Tuyu, Argentina and Itajai, Brazil.
GPBSCI is a nonprofit organization created to form international relationships with cities around the globe through cultivating cultural exchange, youth and education programs, economic partnerships and to provide municipal assistance. GPBSCI’s vision is geared toward creating municipal bonds that will increase volunteerism, citizen diplomacy and promote commercial ties. In achieving these goals GPBSCI will host events to encourage community involvement with functions including social gatherings, artistic endeavors, tourism, business ventures and cultural affairs.
